Clitorture/Goreality - Disassembling The Human Form

A Split CD entitled ‘Disassembling The Human Form’ featuring bands named Clitorture and Goreality is gonna be Brutal Death Metal.  The question, as always, is whether or not the CD is worth buying.  So come along unholy reader cause I know you love dissection.

Clitorture:
With the exception of Guttural Engorgement, I detest Slamming Brutal Death Metal.  But Clitorture aren’t exactly slamming super duper guttural dumb as a caveman bashing bones against his own skull Brutal Death Metal.  If Clitorture was luncheon meat they’d be pimento loaf cause they are heavy/semi tech in a ubiquitous Suffocation style, but they got groove riffage, breakdowns galore, uber pit riffs, and parts of “Flesh Pollution” sound like they were borrowed from Tom Morello when he used to play with Rage Against The Machine.  All their songs are crunchy stomping angry tunes made for moshing, and despite formulaic compositions, the tracks have high replay value… I’d go far enough to assert that if Clitorture’s end of the Split were instead an EP it would still be worth your dead presidents.

Rating: 7.1

Goreality:
This is a band that again reminds me of what a shame/sham it is that mediocrity reigns supreme from the President of Americana, to the school system, humanity, and of course within the Metal scene.  See, Goreality is a good band that has potential to be great, but they undoubtedly get lumped in with a trillion bands riding the coattails of Dying Fetus and Suffocation.  Sure Goreality owe some of their sound to those bands, and they also possess a listless churning Obituary stew with a bit of Napalm Death threshing, but their music is crafted with enough variance to make it interesting.  Moreover, the average running time per song for their portion of ‘Disassembling The Human Form’ is 5:55.  Now I know its only 4 tracks, but Goreality hold the attention with impeccable instrumental precision, beefy time signatures, and hostile shifts in tempo.  Cool harmony leads invade songs like an unexpected bowel release, bass is thicker than a giant salami, drums are tight with robust fills against maniac cymbal crashing, and the vocals sound like a sandy howl with enough audible rough rasping to keep the vocals combative while making the lyrics mostly discernable.

Rating: 7.3

If ‘Disassembling The Human Form’ is an indicator of evolving potential, then Clitorture and Goreality are bands hardy enough to keep your gelatinous ears drooling for future releases.  In the meantime you all can do the obvious by buying this Split CD.
